Ambergris caye, located 58 km northeast of Belize City and separated from Mexico by the narrow Bacalar Chico channel dug by the ancient Maya, is by the far the largest and most inhabited caye in Belize. It's main attraction and most frequent point of arrival is San Pedro town.
The focus of most visitors to Ambergris caye, are it's beaches and it's abundance of water related actvities. The town of San Pedro, due to it's proximity to the barrier reef, acts as a hub for most of the diving, fishing, snorkelling and other water related activities done in Belize.
